Cardinal Flower

Cardinal flower (Lobelia cardinalis L.) is a brilliant red-colored native wildflower. This herbaceous perennial gets 2-4 feet tall and blooms in late summer (July to September). Its bright red flowers are pollinated by hummingbirds along with bees and butterflies. 

This native plant has a wide distribution throughout the eastern U.S. and is hardy to zones 3-9. Although this plant is found naturally on streambanks and prefers moist soils, it is highly adaptable and performs well in woodland environments.
