Yellowwood, Cladrastis kentukea

An excellent, medium-sized vase-shaped tree that matures to 35 to 50 feet tall. It known for its large hanging clusters of fragrant white flowers, which appear in late May. The tree's beautiful branch framework adds winter interest, enhanced by its smooth, gray bark that is akin to elephant skin. Yellowwood gets its common name from the yellow color of its heartwood when freshly cut.
