A four-season favorite, Allegheny serviceberry (Amelanchier laevis) brings beauty, bounty, and wildlife appeal to the landscape. This elegant native tree or large shrub bursts into bloom in early spring, covering its branches with clouds of delicate white flowers before the leaves emerge. In summer, delicious, blueberry-like fruits ripen to deep purple-black—sweet enough for fresh eating, baking, jams, and wildlife treats.

Hardy in zones 4–8, Amelanchier laevis is a versatile choice for woodland gardens, naturalized areas, native plantings, and smaller landscapes. Its blue-green summer foliage turns brilliant shades of orange, red, and gold in fall, while its smooth gray bark adds winter interest.

The edible berries are especially valuable to birds, attracting robins, cedar waxwings, thrushes, and many other species. The flowers provide an early-season nectar and pollen source for native bees and other pollinators.

Easy to grow and beautifully adaptable, Allegheny serviceberry is a rewarding native plant that offers something to enjoy in every season.
