Catesby’s trillium or bashful wake-robin (Trillium catesbyi) is a charming native woodland wildflower prized for its elegant, nodding blooms. In early to mid-spring, this Southeastern U.S. native produces soft pink to rose-purple flowers with contrasting white and yellow centers, held just above a whorl of three rich green leaves.
Ideal for shade gardens, woodland gardens, and native plant landscapes, Trillium catesbyi thrives in partial to full shade and moist, well-drained, humus-rich soil. This low-maintenance perennial wildflower slowly naturalizes over time, making it perfect for naturalized plantings and pollinator-friendly gardens.
Hardy in USDA zones 4–9, Catesby’s trillium is deer-resistant and long-lived when undisturbed. Plant with ferns and other shade-loving perennials for a stunning spring display. A must-have native trillium for collectors and lovers of rare woodland plants.
