Carex pennsylvanica, commonly known as Pennsylvania sedge, is a popular semi-evergreen native sedge. It forms an exquisite green carpet and spreads slowly by rhizomes making it an excellent ground cover. It reaches a height of about 6 to 12 inches, with narrow, arching, light green leaves that create a refined, natural look. It forms dense, tufted clumps that work beautifully as ground cover, border plants, or in shaded areas.
It thrives in moist, well-drained soils, but can tolerate drier conditions once established. It also performs best in full to partial shade. Pennsylvania sedge is known for being low-maintenance and easy to grow and its fine-textured foliage provides a naturalistic look, making it perfect for adding a soft, airy feel to your planting area.
Available in 32 cell plug tray flats. Each cell is 2.22'' wide by 4'' deep. Check out the Sedge & Grass Plug Selection Guide to compare our various plug options.
