Carex plantaginea, also known as the Seersucker Sedge or Plantain-Leaved Sedge, is a versatile and attractive perennial that adds texture and beauty to any garden. This low-maintenance plant grows to about 8 to 12 inches tall, with gracefully arching 1'' wide green leaves that form a neat, clump-forming mound. The showy flowering spikes will reseed to form colonies. This sedge is a great option for adding texture to woodland gardens or providing erosion control on slopes.

It thrives in moist, well-draining soils but can tolerate a range of moisture conditions. It is an excellent option for damp spots, stream banks, or rain gardens. This sedge excels in shady to part-shady areas, though it can tolerate some light sun, particularly in cooler climates. In full sun, it may require more water to prevent stress, but it really shines in the shade, where its cool, soft green foliage provides a tranquil aesthetic.
