Yellow trillium (Trillium luteum) is a standout native woodland wildflower prized for its bright lemon-yellow blooms and sweet citrus fragrance. Blooming in mid to late spring, the upright, three-petaled flowers rise above a striking whorl of mottled green leaves, adding vibrant color and texture to shade gardens.
Native to the southeastern United States, this hardy perennial thrives in partial to full shade and moist, well-drained, humus-rich soil. Ideal for woodland gardens, native plant landscapes, and naturalized plantings, Trillium luteum slowly forms impressive clumps when left undisturbed.
Cold hardy in zones 4–8, yellow trillium is low-maintenance and pollinator-friendly, including serving as a host plant for the larvae of black-patched clepsis moth (Clepsis melaleucanus) and American angle shades moth (Euplexia benesimilis). This long-lived perennial brings reliable beauty and fragrance to any woodland setting.
