Yellowroot (Xanthorrhiza simplicissima) is a low-maintenance shrub renowned for its dense, spreading habit and ability to thrive in deep shade. With its deep green, fern-like leaves and striking, golden-yellow roots.  In early spring, chains of deep maroon flowers with yellow centers open. Perfect for shady spots, it thrives in moist, well-drained soil, right at home on streambanks, where it creates a low groundcover.
